Tip Recipients

Do I need to have a PayPal account to receive tips?

Yes, you need to have a PayPal account in order to receive tips through Ziptip. It's easy to open one at PayPal.com. Once you open your PayPal account, make sure you can receive payments into it. Confirming your email address at PayPal.com usually resolves any payment receipt issues.

What is a unique image?

A 'unique image' is like a business card, and it's what you give to a Tipper (or display to a Tipper) in order to get tipped with Ziptip. It contains your unique QR code. This is what the Tipper scans with their phone to transact the tip. While you can add a custom greeting or thank you message to your unique image, you really don't need to have your name or any personal information on your unique image (unless you choose to). When you open your Ziptip account, we walk you through creating your own unique image.

How do I display my unique image?

Much like a business card, you provide your unique image to your customer. Because it's just paper, you can order them on our site and leave them in places where they will be viewed by your customers (like on a table in a hotel room for housekeeping staff, on a counter in a bar for bartenders, on a desk in a hotel for concierge, etc.). You could also wear your unique image on a lanyard, or attach it to your workstation if that’s what works for you. We'd love to hear how creative you are with how you display your unique image, and will be having a contest soon to award prizes to the most creative Tip Recipients.

How do I get my unique image?

Once you open your Ziptip Tip Recipient account here on our website, we'll walk you through the process of creating your custom unique image. It's easy and only takes a couple of minutes. Once you save your unique image on your computer (we'll walk you though that process too; it only takes seconds) we'll send you to a printer we've partnered with to order a box of 250 business cards printed with your unique image. The printer charges $20 for the box, and we guarantee that you'll make at least $20 in tips using your unique images or your money back (see our Guarantee on our home page and details of it here in FAQ).

What if I run out of items printed with my unique image?

If you run out of items printed with your unique image, you must be getting lots of tips! Ordering more items is easy – just come back to our site and order more.

What are the fees?

Tip Recipients pay only the standard PayPal fee. Here are some example tips and fees:

$5 $0.30 $4.70

How will I know when I have received a tip?

Your tip will show up instantly in both your Ziptip activity and your PayPal account. There is no delay. Ziptip is exploring the option of having Tip Recipients receive a text message when they receive a tip. Let us know if you think this is a good idea.

What if my customer doesn't have the Ziptip app?

Your customer will be able to instantly load the Ziptip app (assuming they have a smartphone). It's good to provide all your customers with a business card with your unique image printed on it because on the back of it there is info about how to quickly load the Ziptip app either from the App Store (for iPhones) or the Android market (for Android phones).

Why is Ziptip better than receiving tips through credit cards?

When customers tip through a credit card (such as in a restaurant), you must typically wait until your employer's merchant account settles and then sometimes wait again for your employer to allocate your credit card tips to you. Ziptip cuts through all that by instantly depositing your tips to your PayPal account. No waiting, no employer involvement (such as with restaurants) and much lower fees.

How else is Ziptip a better way to receive tips?

From bartenders to hotel concierges, from babysitters to yoga teachers, Ziptip facilitates the instant payment to you of your tips. Everyone knows that many people don't carry much cash anymore. With Ziptip, Tippers will always be able to tip when they think it's appropriate.

When using Ziptip, is any information exchanged between Tipper and Tip Recipient?

No. The tipping process is completely anonymous and confidential. Tippers will not learn any information about you and you will not receive any personal info about the Tipper.

Do I have to be present to receive a tip?

No. A Tipper could scan one of your unique images at a later time to transact the tip. Because of this feature, it is a good idea to have your unique image reflect your role or employer, so theTip Recipient will remember (for example, "Thanks from your favorite barista at Peet's Coffee Boston").

What is the Ziptip Guarantee for new Tip Recipients?

Sign up for Ziptip as a Tip Recipient, and order business cards printed with your unique image on it) from our site. Encourage tippers to tip you using the Ziptip app on their smartphones (you do this by displaying or handing out your business cards printed with your unique image to Tippers). If after 150 days you haven't made at least $20 in tip receipts (and we think you'll make so much more), mail one of your professionally printed business cards with your unique image to Ziptip (505 Beachland Blvd., Vero Beach, FL 32963) and, once we confirm your sign-up and order, we'll promptly deposit $20 to your Ziptip account. Try Ziptip – it's risk free!
